School staff discharge duties by wearing black armbands

KATHMANDU: Community school employees have begun protesting, claiming that the nine-point agreement signed between the government and the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT) did not address their demands.

On Sunday, school staff discharged their duties by wearing black armbands at the call of the Nepal School Employees’ Council.

The council participated actively in the 29-day nationwide protest in Kathmandu at the call of the CNT. However, it is now accusing CNT of betraying school employees. The council has announced a phased protest program and plans to hold demonstrations in Kathmandu on May 22 and 23.

It has put forward several demands, including ending discrimination between teachers and staff, implementing past agreements, allowing accumulation of sick leave, establishing a clear pay scale, providing remote area allowances for school employees, issuing the School Education Act, and enforcing the Supreme Court’s verdict.
