School Education Bill: Meeting of House panel uncertain

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives has become uncertain.

The meeting became uncertain after Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant informed the committee that he wouldn’t be able to attend the meeting for some days, citing internal reasons.

“I have been informed that the Education Minister has asked for a week due to internal reasons. It is not clear when the committee will reconvene,” Sarita Bhusal, a member of the committee, told Himal Press.

The committee has been discussing a report submitted by a subcommittee on the education bill. According to Bhusal, Sunday’s meeting focused on issues related to private schools and early childhood development.

The committee is facing the challenge of finalizing discussions on the School Education Bill and presenting it to the House of Representatives by June 29.

As per an agreement reached with the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CTN), the Bill must be tabled in the House of Representatives by June 29.
