School Education Bill briefly delayed to build consensus on key issues: Pant

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant has said that the School Education Bill will be introduced in parliament soon.

Responding to queries raised by lawmakers during discussions on the Appropriation Bill, 2025 related to his ministry in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Minister Pant said the Bill has been briefly delayed to build consensus on a few key issues.

According to an agreement reached with the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT), the Bill was to be tabled by June 29.

Pant said that the Bill incorporates provisions from various past agreements reached with teachers. He added that several concerns raised in the most recent nine-point agreement with the CNT have already been addressed through the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. “The School Education Bill will not only benefit teachers but also the country and the people. This is why it has received special attention,” he added.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to the education sector, Pant said the sector has received the largest budget allocation for the upcoming fiscal year. A total of Rs 211 billion has been allocated to the education sector, while the Ministry of Urban Development has earmarked another Rs 7.47 billion for the reconstruction of schools.
