KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has declined to accept a petition against Nepali Congress (NC) President and parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Advocate Bimal Pokharel had submitted the petition, seeking a court order to prevent Deuba from enjoying privileges as the leader of the main opposition in the House of Representatives, as he had given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
However, the Supreme Court returned the petition, stating that it does not have the jurisdiction to make a decision on the matter as it falls under the purview of parliament.
Despite giving its confidence vote to Prime Minister Dahal on January 10, NC has been stating that it will fulfill its responsibilities as the main opposition party in parliament.
The petitioner had argued that it would be illegal for Deuba to enjoy privileges as the main opposition leader after giving a vote of confidence.
