KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to issue interim order in a writ petition that demanded the removal of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane as a member of the House of Representatives.
The decision means Lamichhane will be able to take the oath of office and secrecy as a member of the House of Representatives on Thursday.
Yuvaraj Safal had filed the petition, arguing that Lamichhane is unfit to become a member of the House of Representatives. The petitioner has claimed that Lamichhane, who was elected to the House of Representatives from the Chitwan-2 constituency, did not obtain a citizenship certificate legally.
Hearing the petition on Wednesday, a constitution bench of the apex court issued show cause notices to Lamichhane, RSP, Election Commission, Federal Parliament Secretariat and District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
