KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has scrapped the decision of the Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC) to reduce building standards in the periphery of Pokhara’s iconic Fewa Lake to 30 meters from the lake shores.
A division bench of Justices Kumari Regmi and Hari Prasad Phuyal took the decision, hearing a writ petition filed by Advocate Khagendra Subedi.
Subedi had knocked on the doors of the apex court after the PMC decided to reduce the building standards in the periphery of Fewa Lake to 35 meters from the lake’s edge. The previous building standard was 65 meters from the lake shores.
The decision will impact around 500 structures, including hotels and restaurants, built on the lake shores by encroaching upon the lake’s area.
