KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in a case against Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
A single bench of Justice Ishwar Khatiwada refused to issued an interim order as demanded by the plaintiff. The bench, however, issued a show cause notice, directing Dahal to furnish clarification within 15 days why action shouldn’t be taken against him as demanded by the plaintiffs.
Two separate petitions were registered against Dahal on behalf of 24 conflict victims, demanding the apex court order to arrest and hand needful punishment to Dahal for insurgency-era crimes.
Addressing a program in Kathmandu two years ago, Prime Minister Dahal made a controversial statement regarding the responsibility for the deaths during the Maoist insurgency. He had stated that he would only take responsibility for the deaths of 5,000 out of the 17,000 killed.
