KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of the government hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by three individuals arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police for investigating the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
A single bench of Justice Kumar Chudal on Friday directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide a written statement through the Office of the Attorney General within 24 hours explaining the reasonable grounds, reasons, and evidence, if there are any, to justify why the habeas corpus order should not be issued as requested by the applicants.
Former Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah, Chairman of Bhat-Bhateni Super Market Min Bahadur Gurung, and former employee of the Land Revenue Office Dharma Prasad Gautam filed the writ of habeas corpus on Thursday.
The CIB arrested them on Tuesday and obtained a seven-day remand for them on Wednesday.
