KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order, directing the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) to put a halt on all its election-related activities.
A single bench of Justice Saranga Subedi issued the order on Thursday.
Hearing a writ petition filed by Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar, the bench ordered the defendants to immediately stop all election-related activities and present a written explanation.
NOC is the authorized agency responsible for selecting athletes to represent Nepal at the Olympics, Asian Games and other international competitions.
NOC had scheduled the election for December 28. All officials, except the President, have been elected unopposed. Incumbent President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, and Nilendra Raj Shrestha and Tej Bahadur Gurung had filed their nominations for the post of president through the online system.
Shrestha, a two-time president of NOC, had amended the NOC constitution through a special general meeting last month to clear legal hurdles to becoming president for yet another term.
Although Patan High Court had instructed the NOC to not proceed with the constitutional amendment process, the NOC leadership had ignored the high court order.
