KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order barring Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Yadav from taking or enforcing any policy decisions that could have long-term effects.
A single bench of Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the order on Tuesday. The restriction will remain in effect until the final verdict is issued on the case.
The bench issued the order, hearing a writ petition filed by Raki Prasad Sah and Arjun Sah and others challenging the appointment of Yadav as the Chief Minister.
CPN-UML’s Yadav, the leader of the largest party in the Madhesh Province Assembly, was appointed Chief Minister as per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy at a hotel in Bardibas in the wee hours of Monday.
The government has dismissed her and appointed Dr Labh to the position.
