KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in Doha on Monday.
During the meeting, Minister Saud requested the Qatari PM to take a strong initiative for the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is believed to have been taken hostage by Hamas. “Given the Qatari government’s contact with Hamas, the friendly relation between Nepal and Qatar, and the active role that Qatar is playing to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the Government of Nepal has placed high hopes on the State of Qatar,” a statement issued by Minister Saud’s Secretariat said.
In response, Qatari PM Al Thani said the State of Qatar has been making all possible efforts for the release of all prisoners, including Bipin Joshi. He hinted at positive outcomes in the coming days.
Minister Saud was also a panelist in the Doha Forum 2023, participated in by heads of state and government, foreign ministers, the private sector, think tanks, and media persons, among others.
