KATHMANDU: Nepal has requested the State of Qatar to take the initiative for the release of Nepali national Bipin Joshi.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, NP Saud, made the request during a meeting with Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
Al-Muraikhi arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday on a two-day visit.
Joshi, according to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), has been held hostage by Hamas.
Deepak Raj Joshi, personal secretary to Minister Saud, said the foreign minister made a special request to the State of Qatar for the release of 50 individuals, including Bipin Joshi, who are believed to be held hostage by Hamas. In response, Al-Muraikhi said his government would make needful efforts to this end.
On the occasion, Saud praised the State of Qatar for mediating the ceasefire in Gaza.
Earlier on Thursday, Minister Saud had held discussions with the Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder, for Bipion Joshi’s release. Issues related to employment, trade, bilateral investment, and cooperation, high-level visits were also discussed in the meeting.
