KATHMANDU: Nepali marathon runner Santoshi Shrestha completed the marathon in the 2024 Paris Olympics in 2 hours, 55 minutes and 6 seconds.
In the event held on Sunday, Shrestha finished 79th out of 92 runners. Eleven runners failed to complete the race.
Santoshi, however, was unable to surpass the national record of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 22 seconds which she set when winning gold at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon earlier this year.
Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands won the gold, finishing the marathon with a record time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 55 seconds. Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa finished the race three seconds later to take silver, while Kenya’s Hellen Obiri claimed bronze with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 23 seconds.
Hassan moved past Assefa with about 200 meters left to go and maintained the lead until the finish line.
