KATHMANDU: Santosh Narayan Shrestha of Syangja has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon) – the securities market regulator.
A cabinet meeting held on Monday evening picked Shrestha for the position.
Earlier, a selection committee chaired by National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairperson Shivaraj Adhikari had recommended Shrestha as well as Dr Navaraj Adhikari and Mukti Shrestha for the position on Sunday.
The position had been lying vacant since the first week of January when incumbent chairperson Ramesh Kumar Hamal completed his term.
A total of 19 candidates had applied for the position, responding to a vacancy notice published on February 28. Of them, five candidates were shortlisted for interview and presentation. Nepse CEO Krishna Bahadur Karki and former chairperson of National Insurance Authority Chiranjivi Chapagain were the other shortlisted candidates.
