KATHMANDU: Table tennis player Santoo Shrestha has become only the third Nepali player to qualify for the Olympics.
Santoo defeated compatriot Sanjog Kapali in 4-3 sets in the men’s final of the South Asian Table Tennis Qualifier for the 2024 Olympics held in Kathmandu on Wednesday to book his tickets to Paris.
Taekwondo players Sangina Baidya and Deepak Bista were the only Nepali athletes to have qualified for the Olympics before Santoo. He is the first Nepali paddler to qualify for the Olympics.
The winners of the men’s and women’s events of the South Asian Table Tennis Qualifier qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Fatimath Ali of the Maldives has qualified for the Paris Olympics by winning the Women’s Final of the South Asian Table Tennis Qualifier in 4-1 sets against Bimandee Bandara of Sri Lanka.
