KATHMANDU: Former national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane was released on Friday after he furnished a bail bond of Rs 2 million as asked by the Patan High Court.
The high court, however, has prevented Lamichhane from leaving the country and meeting the victim and people related to the victim. Similarly, he has been asked to inform the police before leaving Kathmandu.
Lamichhane has been accused of raping a minor girl at a Kathmandu hotel. She has alleged that she was raped twice by Lamichhane. He has denied the accusation.
Kathmandu District Court had sent Lamichhane to judicial custody on November 4 until a final decision is passed. Challenging the decision, Lamichhane had approached the Patan High Court.
Lamichhane’s attorneys had argued in the hearing that the victim is not a minor as has been claimed. Following this, the high court had ordered prosecutors to bring the birth registration details of the minor girl.
