KATHMANDU: Sandeep Lamichhane entered the record books on Friday, becoming the fastest to 100 ODI wickets.
He achieved the feat by trapping Omani batsman Adeel Shafique leg before in the ongoing ACC Premier Cup at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
The legspinner took his 100 ODI wickets in just 42 matches. The record was previously held by Rashid Khan of Afghanistan. Khan took 44 matches to get 100 wickets.
Lamichhane had three five-wicket hauls and eight four-wicket hauls in his glorious playing career.
Lamichhane is also the second fastest to 50 ODI wickets. He took his 50th ODI wicket against Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the TU International Cricket Ground on March 26, 2022 in his 22nd ODI.
PNG is Lamichhane’s favorite opponent as the legspinner has taken 25 wickets playing against the southwestern Pacific island. He has taken 22 wickets playing against UAE, 15 against the USA, 14 against Namibia, 10 each against Oman and Scotland, and four against the Netherlands.
Lamichhane made his ODI debut against the Netherlands on August 1, 2018. He took one wicket in his ODI debut.
