SAARC, Japanese Embassy sign revised MoU for JENESYS 2025

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) have signed an addendum to the revised memorandum on guidelines for the SAARC–Japan Special Fund to support the JENESYS 2025 program.

Under the agreement, the Government of Japan will contribute 21.28 million Japanese Yen for the initiative, according to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu.

SAARC Secretary-General Md Golam Sarwar and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru signed the agreement in Kathmandu on Thursday.

According to the embassy, the addendum builds on the long-running JENESYS Youth Exchange Programme, conducted through the SAARC–Japan Special Fund.

Funded and implemented by the Government of Japan with support from the SAARC Secretariat, JENESYS provides young participants from SAARC member countries the chance to visit Japan and learn about its development model, economic growth, cutting-edge technologies, rich traditions and societal values.

Nearly 50 participants from SAARC countries are expected to visit Japan in FY2025. Over the years, JENESYS has helped foster mutual understanding between Japanese and South Asian youth while equipping participants with knowledge and experiences to contribute to regional development, the embassy said in the statement.
