KATHMANDU: Russian Film Day was celebrated as part of the 8th Nepal International Film Festival in Kathmandu on Saturday.

During the special screening session, movie enthusiasts got the opportunity to watch three Russian films: Nuremberg (2023), directed by Nikolay Lebedev; the teen-love melodrama Four Quarters (2024), directed by Evgenia Tirdatova; and the romantic comedy/road-trip adventure Threesome (2021), directed by Alexandra Sarana.

The special screening was organized in coordination with ROSKINO, the state body for Russian films, and with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture, according to a statement issued by the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF).

Appreciating the initiative taken by NIFF, Anton Maslov, First Secretary at the Embassy of Russia in Kathmandu, said it felt great to see the enthusiasm of the Nepali audience to learn more about Russia. “I want to thank ROSKINO and the Russian Embassy for their support. I hope this will help you all understand our people and culture through films. That’s what international film festivals are for,” he added.

Addressing the one-day festival, NIFF Chairperson KP Pathak said they would continue to collaborate with different countries to celebrate their culture and films. “We want to welcome filmmakers from all over the world to Nepal and screen their films in our country,” he added.

The five-day NIFF is screening feature films, short movies, and AI films from 40 countries.
