KATHMANDU: The Rupandehi District Court has ordered the release of Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, on a bail of Rs 10 million in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case.
The bench of District Judge Pralhad Kumar Yogi issued the order on Sunday evening.
Police completed the first phase of their investigation into the Supreme Cooperative fraud case and, in April last year, submitted a report to the District Government Attorney’s Office, Rupandehi, naming 28 individuals as defendants.
After complaints were filed against 14 more individuals, including Lamichhane, in September, the Area Police Office, Butwal, completed its investigation and recommended the government attorney’s office to file a supplementary charge sheet with over a dozen additional facts and evidence. Following the second phase of the investigation, defendants from the first phase were charged again with additional offenses.
Lamichhane appeared in court on Wednesday for a hearing on his detention. Earlier, he had been released on bail of Rs 6.5 lakh by the Kaski District Court and Rs 60 million by the Kathmandu District Court on similar cooperative fraud cases.
Cases against Lamichhane are also under consideration in Parsa and Chitwan.
