KATHMANDU: CPN-UML’s Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has expressed confidence that the ruling alliance of the center will form a new government in Sudurpashchim Province.
“Although the dispute within the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) has created some confusion regarding the formation of government in Sudurpaschim, I am hopeful that the ruling alliance of the center will form government in the province,” Gyawali said, talking to the media after the party’s Secretariat Committee meeting on Sunday.
Rival factions of NUP on Sunday submitted separate claims to Province Chief Nazir Miyan to form the government in Sudurpashchim. Laxman Kishore Chaudhary, who is close to NUP Patron Resham Lal Chaudhary, has submitted his claim with the support of NUP, Nepali Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Similarly, Kailash Chaudhary, who belongs to the faction close to NUP Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha, has the support of ruling alliance partners CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center).
Ruling alliance partner Unified Socialist, however, has supported the claim of the NUP faction led by Resham Lal Chaudhary. While NUP Chairperson Ranjita supports the ruling alliance of the center, Resham Lal is close to the opposition camp led by Nepali Congress.
“The legal settlement over who will lead the parliamentary party of NUP is still pending,” he said. “The parliamentary party leader of Unified Socialist in Sudurpashchim has extended support going by against the party’s decision. Media outlets are reporting that central level leaders of Unified Socialist have instructed the local leaders to withdraw their support,” Gyawali said.
He added that the ruling coalition believes Unified Socialist will move forward in line with the decision taken by the ruling alliance of the center.
