HETAUDA: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Makwanpur District Committee Chair Bharat Parajuli has joined the Nepali Congress (NC), dealing a setback to the party in the district.
Parajuli formally entered the NC after meeting party President Gagan Kumar Thapa in Sarlahi on Monday. Thapa welcomed Parajuli and his supporters into the party.
The development comes at a time when the RSP was holding a mass meeting at Huprachaur in Hetauda-4. While the event was underway, Parajuli and a group of his supporters traveled to Sarlahi to meet the NC leadership.
Following the meeting, Parajuli announced his resignation from the RSP through a social media post. In the statement, he also raised questions about the party leadership’s working style, signaling internal dissatisfaction.
Parajuli had contested the 2022 House of Representatives elections from Makwanpur-2 as an RSP candidate. He secured 12,039 votes and finished third in the race.
The seat was won by Mahesh Bartaula of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), who garnered 34,916 votes.
Parajuli’s switch to the Nepali Congress is expected to reshape local political dynamics in Makwanpur, particularly as parties gear up for future electoral contests.
