KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Homa Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has said that his party, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), will field its candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker.
Talking to media persons after the election of the Speaker, RSP Chairman Lamichhane said the ruling coalition has forged an understanding to hand the post of Deputy Speaker to his party. “We will hold a meeting on Friday to finalize our candidate for the post,” he said.
The House of Representatives Thursday elected CPN-UML’s Devraj Ghimire as the Speaker.
As the constitution requires Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be from different genders, parties must field women candidates for the post of Deputy Speaker.
RSP is a member of the ruling coalition which also includes CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party.
The meeting of the House of Representatives to be held on January 21 will elect the Deputy Speaker.
