KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has issued an urgent directive for all party leaders and cadres in the Kathmandu Valley to gather at the party’s central office in Banasthali.

RSP leader Jwala Sangraula posted a message on her Facebook page, calling it an “extremely urgent notice,” and requested all leaders and workers in Kathmandu to be present at the party’s central office. She also urged RSP workers and supporters across all 77 districts to remain alert.

The gathering appears to be in response to preparations to arrest RSP President and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who is facing allegations of misappropriating cooperative deposits.

Rumors have been circulating in Kathmandu since Friday morning that police were preparing to arrest Lamichhane.

A parliamentary special investigation committee formed to look into the misappropriation of cooperative deposits stated in its report that while Lamichhane did not directly take money from cooperatives, he had misappropriated funds that came to Gorkha Media from different cooperatives.

The government subsequently directed the Home Ministry and its subordinate agencies to proceed with actions according to the report’s findings.

Former DIG Chabilal Joshi, who is also implicated in this case, has already been arrested, and Kaski Police has recorded his statement. Meanwhile, Gorkha Media Network Chairperson GB Rai remains at large.

Responding to Sangraula’s message, party workers have already started gathering at the RSP office.
