KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has assigned central-level leaders to seven provinces for the upcoming local-level by-elections.
A meeting of the Central Election Coordination Committee of the party, chaired by its coordinator Ganesh Parajuli, has assigned the responsibility to central committee members and members of the House of Representatives.
According to RSP’s Acting Spokesperson Manish Jha, Nisha Dangi has been assigned the responsibility of Koshi Province, while Dr Chandra Karki has been given the responsibility of Madhesh Province. Other leaders given the election facilitation responsibility include Shishir Khanal for Bagmati Province, Bindabasini Kansakar for Gandaki Province, Kusum Maharjan for Lumbini Province, Lima Adhikari for Karnali Povince and Bishnu Kumar Shrestha for Sudurpashchim Province.
The party has also issued a notice for interested candidates to apply through Google Form or the application form available at the party’s Election Mobilization Committee.
Coordinator Parajuli said the candidates will be finalized on a consensus basis. “If there are multiple aspirants, a primary voting process will be used to select the candidate,” he added.
Parajuli said the party is considering supporting independent candidates or exploring potential collaborations in local units, particularly in Madhesh Province, where the party has not expanded its organization yet.
“We are using the local-level by-elections to establish our agenda rather than solely aiming for victory,” Parajuli added.
The Election Commission is holding the by-elections to fill 44 vacant positions in local governments on December 1.
