KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has filed a resolution motion in the House of Representatives, calling for the withdrawal of the Local Infrastructure Development Program introduced by the government in the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24.
Presenting the fiscal budget in parliament on Monday, Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat allocated Rs 50 million for each constituency under this program also known as the parliamentary development fund. The RSP argues that the program is merely a waste of government resources.
Several RSP lawmakers, including Dol Prasad Aryal, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, Sumana Shrestha, Santosh Pariyar, Manish Jha, Asim Shah, Ganesh Parajauli, and Dr. Toshima Karki, registered the resolution motion.
“At a time when the economy is already under strain, implementing programs like this, where efficient utilization of resources cannot be guaranteed, would amount to nothing but a misuse of state resources,” the resolution motion lodged by the party reads.
