KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has announced that its lawmakers will not accept meeting allowances on days when the sessions of the House of Representatives are obstructed.
The RSP’s decision comes in response to the ongoing disruptions of House proceedings by the main opposition CPN-UML. The lower house meeting was also postponed on Friday before any of the scheduled business could be conducted.
“It is unfortunate that House meetings have been consistently obstructed in recent days. We have decided to not accept meeting allowances on days when House meetings are obstructed,” RSP President Rabi Lamichhane said while exiting the House of Representatives on Friday.
Lamichhane also mentioned that the RSP handed over a letter to the Speaker, drawing his attention toward the ongoing obstruction of the House session. “RSP is committed to not availing any facilities on days when House sessions are disrupted due to political conflicts,” he further added.
In the letter, the RSP stated that the lack of consensus among the ruling coalition and the main opposition regarding the investigation of the 100 kg gold smuggling case has impeded House proceedings. “This obstruction has infringed upon the sovereign rights of lawmakers to voice the sufferings of the people in the House,” the letter states.
