KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding a meeting to decide whether to remain in Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s government.
The party has called a meeting of its office-bearers, MPs, and ministers at its office in Basundhara at 4 pm on Thursday.
RSP President Rabi Lamichhane lost his party presidency, as well as his positions as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Home Affairs Minister, and Member of Parliament, after the Supreme Court deemed his citizenship certificate invalid. Although Lamichhane regained his citizenship and was re-appointed party president, Prime Minister Dahal is unwilling to reinstate him until the controversy surrounding him is resolved.
After restoring his citizenship, Lamichhane met Prime Minister Dahal and demanded to be reinstated as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. But Dahal denied. RSP has threatened to leave the ruling coalition if Lamichhane is not reinstated. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has also pressured Dahal to reinstate Lamichhane.
The RSP meeting is seen as significant, as Lamichhane took to social media on Thursday stating that his silence will end today.
