RSP decides to continue parliament obstruction

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to continue its obstruction in the House of Representatives until a high-level investigation committee is formed to probe the visit visa controversy.

Informing the media about the decisions taken by the party’s Secretariat, at the party office in Banasthali, Kathmandu, on Thursday, RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, said the meeting reiterated its demands for the formation of a high-level probe committee and the resignation of the Home Minister. “The party has decided to continue its protest in the House until these demands are addressed,” he added.

The meeting also expressed concern over the controversial alteration, particularly the change to the cooling-off period provision, made to the Federal Civil Service Bill during its passage through the House of Representatives. The RSP has called the act an attack on the constitutional sovereignty of parliament.

Burlakoti added that the party has demanded the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate the manipulation of legislative procedures.

“The meeting also discussed the candidate selection process for the upcoming by-election in Rupandehi-3 constituency. It reviewed the candidate selection proposal. The proposal will be finalized in Sunday’s meeting,” he added.
