KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has challenged its former lawmaker Dhaka Kumar Shrestha to provide evidence of its leader seeking money from him in exchange for a ministerial appointment.

The RSP removed Shrestha from its ranks after an audio recording surfaced in which he was heard soliciting Rs 30 million from hospital operator Durga Prasai. Initially, Shrestha admitted that the voice in the recording was his, and he claimed that someone from RSP’s ‘core team’ had requested the money, promising him ministerial position.

Later, Shrestha changed his statement and said RSP central committee member Mohan Jung Thapa had sought the money.

Issuing a statement, RSP has asked Shrestha to provide evidence to support his allegations. The party also mentioned that its discipline committee had questioned Thapa about his claims.

“We urge everyone to refrain from accepting baseless allegations propagated by individuals with vested interests. If Dr. Shrestha or any other individuals can provide proof of RSP party leaders and members soliciting money from anyone, we will take appropriate action against them within 72 hours,” the statement issued by RSP’s General Secretary and Spokesperson, Dr. Mukul Dhakal said.
