LUMBINI: A total of Rs 16.4 million has been collected from the donation box placed in the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini – the birthplace of Buddha.
The donation box was opened on January 2 in the presence of officials from the local unit, security agencies, and other stakeholders, according to Dhundiraj Bhattarai, the treasurer of the Lumbini Development Trust.
Pilgrims and general visitors to the Mayadevi Temple voluntarily drop money into the donation box. The money collected supports the operational expenses of the LDT, according to Bhattarai.
This is the second second time in the current fiscal year, which commenced in mid-July 2023, that the box has been opened. The box was earlier opened in September when officials collected Rs 6.47 million.
