KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has said that it won’t support the coalition of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) to form the government in provinces.
A meeting of the office-bearers of the party held in Kathmandu on Wednesday took the decision. The party has categorically stated that it won’t support the UML-Maoist Center coalition. RPP, however, has said it may support a coalition government led by the Nepali Congress without joining the government.
Earlier, RPP’s central work performance committee meeting had also decided to not support the UML-Maoist Center coalition to form the government in provinces.
RPP’s decision will affect the UML-Maoist Center’s plan to form the government in Gandaki. The coalition, which has 29 members in the provincial assembly, needs the support of RPP to form the government.
RPP has two members in the provincial assembly.
RPP’s decision means Surendra Raj Pandey of Nepali Congress, who stepped down on Wednesday, will return as Gandaki’s chief minister.
RPP Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha has said that his party’s official decision is that it won’t support the UML-Maoist Center coalition to form the government in provinces.
Gandaki Province Chief has given parties until 3 pm on April 10 to make a claim for government formation.
