RPP, RPP Nepal formalize unification; Lingden to continue as chair

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the RPP Nepal have formalized their unification.

RPP Chairperson Rajendra Prasad Lingden and RPP Nepal Chairperson Kamal Thapa signed a six-point agreement in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The agreement states that the party will be guided by the principles of a democratic system with a constitutional monarchy, a Hindu state aligned with Sanatan Dharma while ensuring full religious freedom, strong local autonomous governance, a liberal economy, and a non-aligned foreign policy.

As per the agreement, Lingden will continue as party chair. Similarly, leaders who were elected to the Central Committee through the RPP’s unity General Convention but later chose RPP Nepal will be reinstated to their previous responsibilities.

Speaking at the program, Lingden said the party would become stronger with the return of senior leaders. “The RPP has always felt incomplete without Kamal Thapa. That sense of emptiness had now been resolved,” he added.

Similarly, Thapa said he felt the unification of the two parties more like a reunion. “There is no alternative to agitation to street protests to establish our agenda,” he maintained.

The agreement states that office-bearers and members of the affiliated organizations of RPP Nepal will be respectfully integrated into the corresponding sister organizations of the RPP.

Thapa had left the RPP and formed RPP Nepal four years ago after losing to Lingden in the party’s general convention for the post of chairperson.
