KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has called for arrangements to ensure that migrant Nepalis can vote in the upcoming elections.
Announcing the decisions of the party’s Central Working Committee on Friday, he urged the government to move ahead with preparations for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5 only after guaranteeing both overseas and inter-district voting. “It is possible to arrange voting for Nepalis living overseas and to allow inter-district voting within the country. The election process should proceed only after ensuring these provisions,” Lingden said.
He added that the Central Working Committee has also decided to ask the government to work toward a new political understanding among the monarchy, political parties, and the Gen Z generation.
The party reiterated its position that the constitutional monarchy should be restored through national consensus. Lingden said the Central Working Committee has concluded that the restoration of the constitutional monarchy must come through national consensus, not through a referendum or any violent process. He warned that deciding the issue of the monarchy through majority–minority calculations could create further complications.
Stating that a national consensus should be forged among the former King, political parties, and Gen Z people before the next general election, the RPP called on all political parties and the government to take meaningful initiatives immediately.
The meeting also approved the decision to recall Kanchan Biccha, a member of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly elected from the RPP, from her position.
