KATHMANDU: Rohit Paudel has become the first Nepali player to score 2,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Paudel reached the milestone during the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, when he scored two runs before being dismissed. With this, he became the only Nepali cricketer to achieve the 2,000-run mark in ODIs.

Paudel achieved the feat in his 76th ODI match.

Asif Sheikh follows him with 1,677 runs, while Kushal Bhurtel has accumulated 1,454 runs.

Paudel made his ODI debut during Nepal’s tour of England and the Netherlands, playing against the Netherlands in Amstelveen on August 3. He scored six runs off 15 balls. He took over as captain of the national side on November 11, 2022, at the age of 20, becoming the youngest skipper in Nepal’s cricketing history.

In ODIs, Paudel has been particularly prolific against Papua New Guinea (PNG), scoring 443 runs in 10 matches. He has also notched 364 runs against the UAE in 16 matches and 293 runs against the United States in nine matches.

Apart from his ODI success, Paudel has also been consistent in T20 internationals, where he has scored 1,637 runs in 72 innings.
