Revenue collection down 5.9% in 2022/23

KATHMANDU: The government estimates to mobilize only Rs 1,179.84 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year. It is 5.9% less compared to what the government had mobilized in the fiscal year 2021/22.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the joint meeting of the Hosue of Representatives and National Assembly on Monday, Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said the government will be able to mobilize only 84% of the revenue target set for the current fiscal year.

Mahat said revenue mobilization suffered in the current fiscal year due to import control measures taken by the government, contraction in economic activities, and other factors.

Likewise, Mahat said that the government will be able to spend only Rs 1,504 billion in the current fiscal year. It is Rs 291 billion less than what the government had targeted to spend in the current fiscal year.

The government has presented a budget of Rs 1,793 billion for the current fiscal year.
