Resham Chaudhary files application to register NUP Nepal

KATHMANDU: Resham Chaudhary, the founder of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), submitted an application to the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday to register a new political party.

Resham has proposed Kabir Sop as the chairperson of the new party, named Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), Nepal.

The party will have a 45-member central committee. It has proposed Janto, a traditional grain grinder made of two stones, as the election symbol.

Abdul Khan, the former vice-chairperson of the Janamat Party, has been named senior vice-chairperson, while Uma Shankar Chaudhary will serve as general secretary.

Resham parted ways with the NUP, the party he founded, following disputes with its chairperson, Ranjita Shrestha, who is also his spouse.
