LUMBINI: The Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) has started renovating the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini.
According to Sanuraja Shakya, the member secretary of LDT, the renovation work began at the UNESCO World Heritage site on Thursday.
Himalayan Builders and Engineers Pvt Ltd have been enlisted by LDT for the renovation project with support from the Fung Thai Foundation of Thailand.
A special worship program was organized on the temple premises on Thursday to inaugurate the renovation works.
Water seepage from the temple’s roof, which posed a threat to the artifacts housed within the temple, prompted the LDT to start renovation on the temple, according to LDT officials.
The present-day Mayadevi Temple was constructed in 2001 by the LDT with the support of UNESCO and the Department of Archaeology.
