KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has claimed that there has been no change in his relationship with leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala.
“The relationship that we built in the run-up to the 14th general convention is as strong as ever. More friends will join us in the 15th convention,” Thapa said, talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Tuesday.
Thapa’s comment has come at a time when news reports are claiming that Dr. Koirala is inching closer to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
He added that a change of leadership is a must for a generational transition in the party. “The party will be more dynamic if President Deuba becomes ready for a leadership transition,” Thapa said. “The need of the hour is generational transition and new leadership.”
Thapa also said the President, therefore, should not stake his claim for the post of Prime Minister or any other post. “He should not show greed for power,” Thapa added.
