KATHMANDU: A parliamentary study panel has suggested the government to reduce the size of the council of ministers of province governments.
The Parliamentary Special Committee for the Study and Monitoring of the Implementation of Federalism formed by the National Assembly has suggested that the government fix the size of province cabinets at a minimum of five members to a maximum of 10% of the province assembly members.
The committee also said that public spending has increased due to the increase in the number of provincial ministries and ministers and that people are starting to have a negative perception of the system itself.
The National Assembly had formed the seven-member panel led by Khim Lal Devkota in May.
‘Reduce workforce at federal offices by 50%’
Further, the panel has suggested to the government to reduce the workforce at federal offices by 50%.
“The government must make needful legal and policy arrangements to prevent the situation of workforce centering in federal offices, while the provinces and local units get saddled by workload.
