KAVRE: The floods and landslides on September 27 and 28 have claimed 78 lives in Kavre district. Six are still missing.
According to the District Police Office, Kavre, the search for the missing has been suspended after prolonged unsuccessful attempts to locate them.
Among the missing are two young girls Priya Tamang and Apriya Tamang from Temal Rural Municipality-2 who disappeared when their house was buried by a landslide. Other missing include Shanta Rimal (40) from Chaurideurali-6, Gita Shrestha (42) from Dhulikhel-8; Gyanu Pariyar (38) from Bethanchok-4 and Devimaya Syanntan (37) from Khanikhola-6.
District Police Chief Basundhara Khadka said 75 people were injured in the disasters.
Panauti Municipality (18) recorded the highest number of deaths in the district, followed by Roshi (13), Temal (12), Bethanchowk (12), Mandan Deupur (7), Namobuddha (7), Banepa (3), Bhumlu (3), Dhulikhel (2) and Chaurideurali (1). Among 13 local units in the district, three – Panchkhal, Khanikhola and Mahabharat – reported no casualties.
The government has Roshi, Temal, Bethanchok, Chaurideurali and Mahabharat rural municipalities, and Panauti, Namobuddha and Mandan Deupur municipalities as crisis-hit areas.
Chief District Officer of Kavre, Umesh Kumar Dhakal, said the local administration has already distributed Rs 200,000 each as immediate relief to next of kin of the deceased.
