KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary and Member of Hosue of Representatives Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who has been evading arrest since a warrant was issued for him last week, has informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat that he is currently unwell.
According to a staffer at the secretariat, Rayamajhi’s letter has reached the administrative division of the secretariat. However, it remains unclear who sent the letter or how it was delivered to the Secretariat.
Rayamajhi sent the letter as he could lose his position as a lawmaker if he misses 10 parliamentary meetings in a row.
The arrest warrant was issued after individuals arrested in connection with the investigation into the Bhutanese refugee scam implicated him.
Meantime, the UML party has suspended Rayamajhi until the investigation is concluded.
So far, the police have made 12 arrests, including Rayamajhi’s son Sandeep, as part of the investigation into the case. Among those arrested by the police are Tek Narayan Pandey, secretary at the Office of the Vice President, and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand.
