KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has called for the prosecution of all individuals involved in the Bhutanese refugees scam.
Speaking at the central committee meeting of his party which began at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Thursday, Oli said suspended party secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi should surrender to the police. Oli criticized Rayamajhi for allegedly obstructing the investigation into the case by evading authorities. “Despite my advice to surrender, Rayamajhi chose to ignore my words,” Oli remarked.
Rayamajhi was suspended by the UML on Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued for him last week. Oli disclosed that he had received a call from one of Rayamajhi’s relatives on Wednesday. “I reminded Rayamajhi’s relatives about the decision taken by the party and urged them to refrain from further discussion,” he told the central committee.
Commenting on Rayamajhi, Oli said: “Accusations alone do not prove guilt, evading authorities only raises suspicions.”
Oli also said that he intends to disclose all relevant information regarding the Bhutanese refugees scam in parliament on May 18. “During the session, I will try to explain who were sent to the US in which refugees’ names and who were involved in the process,” Oli added.
