KATHMANDU: Prakashman Singh Raut has been appointed as the new Chief Justice.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Raut to the position as per Article 129 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, according to a statement issued by the Office of the President.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on September 16 nominated Raut to succeed Bishambhar Prasad Shrestha. Raut’s nomination was endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on October 2.
Raut will lead the country’s judiciary for 18 months as he is retiring on March 31, 2026.
