KATHMANDU: Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Chairperson, Ranjita Shrestha, has been removed as the party’s parliamentary leader.

A meeting of the parliamentary party held on Sunday morning elected Gangaram Chaudhary Dagaura as the new parliamentary leader of the NUP. Likewise, Lalbir Chaudhary has been elected as the party’s Chief.

Shrestha was not present at the meeting.

Three out of four NUP members in the House of Representatives were present in the meeting.

The change in NUP’s parliamentary leadership comes at a time when Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was preparing to induct Shrestha into his cabinet as the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

NUP leaders are divided among camps led by Shrestha and the party’s founder Resham Lal Chaudhary. Interestingly, the two are married to each other.
