Rain displaces five families in Armala suburbs of Pokhara

POKHARA: Five families in the Armala suburbs of Pokhara have been displaced due to heavy rains on Saturday night.

According to locals, the families had to evacuate their homes after a rain-swollen stream caused debris to flood into their houses. One of the houses has been completely destroyed.

Amrit Sharma Timilsina, chairman of Ward-16 of Pokhara Metropolitan City, stated that the rain-swollen stream entered five houses in Armala on Saturday night. “Some underprivileged families were living by building their houses near the stream. The stream has also deposited debris on around 200 ropani of arable land,” he added.

Meanwhile, sinkholes have formed on Dandathok Road in Batulechaur of Pokhara-16. The entire settlement is at risk after the blacktopped road caved in, according to local residents.

A tipper, which had been brought in to fill the sinkholes with aggregates, has also been trapped in one of the sinkholes. Efforts are underway to pull the tipper to safety.
