KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, who is in the custody of Kaski police for investigation into cooperative fraud, was transferred to Birgunj on Monday to record his statement.
After securing a four-day remand extension for Lamichhane, Kaski police transferred Lamichhane to Birgunj via Kathmandu. Police in Parsa are investigating Lamichhane’s alleged role in the misappropriation of deposits from Birgunj-based Sano Paila Cooperatives.
Police investigation has shown Rs 85.84 million was transferred to Gorkha Media Network from Sano Paila Coopratives. Before forming RSP ahead of the 2022 general election, Lamichhane served as managing director of the media company.
The Parsad District Court earlier authorized police to arrest Lamichhane, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi and 12 others for investigation.
Meanwhile, RSP workers staged protests in different parts of Bara and Parsa district as Lamichhane was taken from Simara Airport to Birgunj. Sources say Lamichhane will be kept in the custody of the District Police Office, Parsa.
Lamichhane has already recorded statements for similar allegations in Kaski, Rupandehi, Kathmandu and Rupandehi districts.
