BUTWAL: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane was released from prison on Friday.
Although the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had ordered his release on bail on Thursday, he was freed only on Friday as he needed to travel to Rupandehi to obtain the release warrant.
Lamichhane had been in judicial custody in Nakkhu prison for trial in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal.
The former Home Minister traveled to Rupandehi via Chitwan on Friday to complete legal formalities. As flights to Bhairahawa were canceled due to unfavorable weather, he flew to Bharatpur and traveled to Rupandehi by road.
According to Rupandehi District Court Information Officer Padam Aryal, Lamichhane was released after depositing a total of Rs 374.84 million.
A large number of supporters welcomed him following his release.
