Rabi instructs lawmakers not to engage in media trials to become ministers

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has warned the party’s lawmakers against engaging in media lobbying to secure ministerial positions.

Addressing an orientation program for the party’s lawmakers in Lalitpur on Wednesday, Lamichhane said no discussions or decisions have been made within the party regarding ministerial appointments.

Stating that casual remarks on serious national issues, including the economy, could turn public optimism toward the party into disappointment, he urged the lawmakers to remain mindful of their conduct.

He also instructed the party’s lawmakers to fully respect the public mandate and work toward positive change. “Voters have placed great hope and trust in the party. I request you to honour that mandate and deliver meaningful reforms,” he said.

Lamichhane also advised lawmakers to faithfully implement the commitments made to people while campaigning for votes, warning that no one has the liberty to make irresponsible public statements or treat the electoral mandate as a matter of entertainment.

He also directed lawmakers to spend time in their respective constituencies on days when Parliament is not in session and to understand people’s concerns up close.
