KATHMANDU: A Qatari delegation led by Mohd Ahmed M.A. Al-Obaidely, a board member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Tuesday held talks with Finance Minister Rameshwore Prasad Khanal and Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, Misal bin Mohammed Ali Al-Ansari, and President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, were also present in the discussions.

The discussions focused on promoting bilateral investment, expanding trade, and exploring possibilities for government-to-government, as well as private sector cooperation.

During the talks, Finance Minister Khanal said that the government was advancing legal and structural reforms to create an investment-friendly environment in Nepal. He added that the government was ready to work in partnership with the private sector to accelerate economic growth through foreign investment and technology transfer. He also said sectors like energy, minerals, health, education, tourism, agro-processing, and information technology hold potential for Qatari investment.

Al-Obaidely expressed a positive view of Nepal’s investment climate and said he was interested in expanding direct cooperation and business exchanges between the private sectors of the two countries.

Qatari ambassador Al-Ansari said the Qatari private sector is keen to invest in Nepal. He expressed confidence that stable policies, a facilitative banking system, and investment security would further increase investment flows.

FNCCI President Dhakal said the federation has been playing an active role in promoting a private sector-led development model in Nepal.
